After an absolutely amazing indoor season, our Ladies 1s marked their return to National 1 by securing a 3rd place finish in Scotland’s top indoor division. Making history as the highest ever finish for any ladies team in the National leagues. What a squad!
Head Coach Alan Wall reflects on the season.
After a number of years in National 2 Indoor the ladies where promoted last year after a 100% season. Three years previously when relegated, the group had all agreed to start playing a style of indoor that would result in more success when we were promoted rather than continuing to be a yoyo team.
This achievement has not only put our indoor Ladies side on the map but it has also shown a number of solid players what they are capable of if they push on and believe.
– Alan Wall, Inverleith Ladies 1s Head Coach.
The season was a great success. In the league section we managed to finish third having played every team and had it not been for the odd injury and unavailability we may have pushed even higher. This put us in a very strong position moving into the pools stage and we got the job done and moved onto the semi finals.
In our semi we ended up narrowly losing 3-1 to a strong Dundee Wanderers team. The game was on a knife edge with only a goal in it with minutes to play but sadly we missed a few chances and paid the price right at the end. The ladies kept their nerve though and after a long day managed to win the third places playoff on running penalties against Watson’s.
This signified the highest ever league finish for any Inverleith Ladies side ever. This was also with a squad of mainly current or ex Inverleith players that had been together for years so it was a just reward for a lot of hard work and dedication. This achievement has not only put our indoor ladies side on the map and had people take notice but has also shown a number of solid players what they are capable of if they push on and believe. With hard work and belief we hope this could be the start of something exciting going forward.
Well done Ladies!
